David Brooks will discuss “The Quest for a Moral Life” at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Granada Theatre, 1214 State St.
A prominent New York Times op-ed columnist and regular guest on PBS NewsHour and NPR’s All Things Considered, Mr. Brooks is on a mission to help people live deeper and more joyful lives.
Author of the recently-published “The Second Mountain,” he explains that there are two metaphorical mountains we must climb to live a moral life. On the first mountain, people tackle personal goals, and on the second, people learn to focus on service to others. Mr. Brooks provides insight on how our culture shapes us to be individualistic, but it is the community approach to life where joy can be found.
Tickets are $25 to $40 for the general public and $15 for UCSB students. For more information about the talk, sponsored by UCSB Arts& Lectures, call 805-893-3535 or visit www.ucsbartsandlectures.ucsb.edu.
