
Passed away peacefully in his home in the presence of his family on May 27, 2013. Born in Chicago, Illinois, on April 10, 1923, Hal is survived by five children, Ruth, Patricia, Harold, John and Daniel, six grandchildren and five great-grand children. Hal enlisted in the Navy in 1940 and during his service he received training in Morse code to serve in communications as a radio operator in the Panama Canal and on a Naval escortship.
After serving his country, Hal completed an AA degree in Electronics at Pasadena City College while working full time and raising a family. Hal retired in 1978 after 25 years of service as a computer field engineer and enjoyed the remainder of his life living in Santa Barbara. Throughout his life, Hal enjoyed classical music. He was an avid golfer, tennis player and bridge player. Hal’s dedication to faith included Eucharistic ministry and serving the Santa Barbara community through the Knights of Columbus. In addition, Hal spent years assisting people in need through the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Hal was a loving husband, father, grandparent and friend to anyone that met him and will be remembered for his consistent love and dedication to his family and friends.
There will be a Vigil with a Rosary at St. Rapphael’s Catholic Church, June 13, 7:00 PM. Funeral service is scheduled at St. Raphael’s, June 14, 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Raphael’s St. Vincent de Paul Conference, (805) 967-5641.
