SANTA MARIA Three people were injured in a two-vehicle collision Wednesday night near the intersection of Santa Maria Way and Dauphin Street in Santa Maria, police said.
The crash was reported at 8:05 p.m. and involved a red mini van and a white pickup truck. The circumstances of the collision were still being investigated, though it appeared one of the vehicles pulled out into the roadway in front of the other prior to the crash, said Lt. Terry Flaa, spokesman for the Santa Maria Police Department.
Both vehicles sustained major damage and the mini van ended up crashing into a nearby telephone pole.
Two people in the mini van and the lone occupant of the truck were transported to a local hospital after suffering what was described as minor to moderate injuries, Lt. Flaa said.
“There was information present to suggest that alcohol may have been a factor,” Lt. Flaa said, adding that the investigation into the cause of the crash is continuing.
