Passed away February 23, 2013. Sid, as he was best known, was born in Wilmington, North Carolina on August 30, 1931. He attended Duke University earning his Bachelor’s degree in three years. He joined the Navy, graduated from Officer’s Candidate School and served as a lieutenant for several years mostly on submarines. While serving he met and married Diana C. Hodge in New London, Connecticut on May 11, 1957. Their first child, Elizabeth, was born there. Exiting the Navy in 1958 and gaining employment as a nuclear physicist, the Trundles moved to Tennessee where daughters Mary Ellen and Gail were born.
In 1963, the family moved to Santa Barbara, California to work for EG&G where he was employed until he retired. Sid and Diana established a home which was the Trundle residence for more than forty years. In 1965 Albert, their fourth child and only son, was born. Sid and Diana raised all 4 kids here in Santa Barbara surrounded by wonderful people who became life-long family friends. He became a widower when he lost Diana July 4, 1996.
Sid was an advisor and friend to many. As a means of giving back to the community he loved, Sid gave his time and talents most notably with the Girls Scouts and First United Methodist Church of Santa Barbara. Sid was known for his sharp mind and ability to provide. His wisdom and ability to supply a joke for every occasion will be missed. Sid spent several years at Maravilla and the last 10 months residing in Moorpark with his daughter, Gail.
He passed away while being cared for at Mary Health of the Sick in Newberry Park. Trusting by faith, Sid now resides in the place His Heavenly Father has prepared for him (John 14). In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Mary Health of the Sick or to the giver’s favorite charity in the name of this fine man. Services will be held at First United Methodist Friday March 8th at 11:30 am.
