At age 90, Glenn Tucker died May 7, 2013, tended by loved ones in Sonora, CA.
Glenn Tucker was born October 16, 1922, son of John and Jessie Tucker, and raised in Santa Barbara. He attended Lincoln Elementary, Santa Barbara Junior High and Santa Barbara High school, graduating in 1940.
During World War II, Glenn served in the Army Air Force as an aircraft mechanic, stationed first at Townsville, Queensland, Australia, and later at a base near Manila, Philippines.
For most of his working life, Glenn was employed by General Telephone and Electronics (later GTE, now Verizon). He started out as a splicer’s helper and eventually managed the switching equipment in GTE’s Santa Maria main office.
Glenn married Dorothy Densmore, and they had four children: Donald, Kathleen, Kenneth, and Marlene. They later divorced and after several years, Glenn married Marlene Berry. He adopted her two children, Sharilyn and Jerrel in 1972. The second marriage ended after a few years, and Glenn retired from GTE in 1984.
In his retirement years Glenn first lived alone in Morro Bay. But following his heart attack and bypass surgery, Glenn moved to the Salt Lake City area, Utah, where Sharilyn, now Mrs. Richard Cano, and her family looked after him. He later returned to Sonora, California in 2001 to live with his daughter Kathleen and more recently, his son Donald.
Glenn’s passions in life were the popular music of his youth, crossword puzzles (always completed in pen), and road trips on roads less travelled. He had an enormous collection of music recordings. Also when young, Glenn was quite accomplished at roller skating, but in recent years would settle for a slow walk in the park or a scenic drive in the mountains.
Glenn is preceded in death by his second son, Kenneth, and his granddaughter, Jessica. Surviving him are Kathleen and Donald of Sonora, Marlene of Florida, Sharilyn, her husband Richard, and their five children and three grandchildren of Medford, Oregon, Kathleen’s daughter Stacey Orso and her two children of Bismarck, North Dakota, his sister Mary Kraft and brothers Kenneth and Stanley, all of Santa Barbara, and many nephews and nieces. Glenn will be interred beside his granddaughter in Medford, Oregon at a later date with a family service.
