CUYAMA — A two-alarm vegetation fire broke out Friday afternoon near State Route 33 about two miles south of State Route 166, authorities said.
The fire was reported around 4:10 p.m. Santa Barbara County Fire Department crews responded alongside personnel from the Los Padres National Forest, Ventura County Fire Department and Kern County Fire Department. As of 5 p.m. forward progress of the blaze had been stopped. The fire charred an estimated 35 acres in light fuel with a moderate rate of spread, according to officials.
Ground units were joined for a time by at least four aircraft and one helicopter.
Initial reports indicated two structures were fully engulfed. No injuries were reported and no other structures were threatened. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
