SANTA MARIA A vegetation fire broke out Wednesday morning and charred an estimated five to seven acres on State Route 166 near the Chimineas Ranch approximately 30 miles east of Santa Maria.
The fire was reported just before 8:30 a.m. Crews from the Santa Barbara County Fire Department, Cal Fire, and the Bureau of Land Management responded to the area and found flames in the field off the roadway. Forward progress of the blaze was stopped just before noon, according to officials.
No structures were threatened by the blaze. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
