
Donald Parmenter Woolsey passed away peacefully in Medford, Oregon on Thursday, December 26, 2013 after a short illness.
Don was born October 18, 1927 in Ventura to C. Donald Woolsey and Hazel Parmenter Woolsey. He spent his childhood in Ventura where he was an outstanding junior tennis player.
After graduating from Ventura High School in 1945, he attended and graduated from Pomona College where he met his future wife, Mary Moseley. They were married in July 1951 and returned to Ventura, California where Don worked for his father at the El Rio Rock Company. When the Rock Company was sold later that year to SP Milling, Don and Mary moved to Woodland, California where he was in the farming business. In 1959, Don and Mary with their family, returned to Ventura where Don became involved in the development business with his father.
During this time, Don served on the Ventura Unified School Board, the Community Memorial Hospital Board, the Ventura Grand Jury and was active in the Ventura Rotary Club among other organizations – and still continuing his tennis, mostly social, although competing once again in the 1960’s in doubles with his brother-in-law, Ron Hertel, in the Ojai Tennis Tournament.
In 1984 Don and Mary moved to Santa Barbara where he continued to enjoy his tennis and retirement. Don and Mary loved fly fishing and spent many enjoyable years at their cabin in Idaho and later in Black Butte Ranch.
They moved to Medford, Oregon where they lived at Rogue Valley Manor, while also spending a great deal of time at Black Butte Ranch.
Don was preceded in death by his parents Don and Hazel Woolsey, and his wife of 56 years, Mary Moseley Woolsey.
He is survived by his children Catherine Woolsey Ingram and husband Steve of Sumner, Washington, Donald Woolsey, Jr. and wife Sue of North Bend, Washington and Carol Woolsey Bradfield and husband Andrew of Bakersfield, CA, his grandchildren Ryan Ingram (Kelli), Christy Ingram, Katie Woolsey, Eric Bradfield (Emily), and Kyle Bradfield (Sarah), and great grandchildren Mattea and Camrie Ingram, Carson and LeAnne Bradfield, Rachel Bradfield, Don’s sister Carolyn Woolsey Hertel and brother-in-law Ronald of Ventura, CA, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Jack and Cathy Moseley of Santa Barbara, CA and brother-in-law Bill Moseley of Boise, Idaho.
Private Services were held in Oregon.
