Led by the trio of Pratima Sherpa, Melanie Smith and Alexa Bleth, the SBCC women’s golf team finished second at the WSC Finals, finishing 36 strokes behind undefeated Canyons at Camarillo GC.
Sherpa finished in fourth individually in the WSC Finals after rounds of 77 and 80, while Smith was fifth at 158 and Bleth was sixth at 163.
Haruka Koda of Canyons won the individual title with a 1-under 143 and was named WSC Player of the Year after winning six of 10 WSC tourneys.
“I really felt like we were going to burn it up today but it didn’t happen,” said SBCC coach Chuck Melendez. “Several girls had trouble putting. The greens had been punched (aeration process) recently and that made it tougher.”
Canyons finished WSC play at 50-0, while SBCC was 40-10.
SBCC advances to the Southern Cal Regional on Nov. 10-11 at Via Verde Country Club in San Dimas.
